The Ai Salon Archive

The Ai Salon is a community founded in San Francisco to discuss the meaning and impact of AI in our society. We believe that consideration and input from a vibrant civil society is critical to successfully navigating this transformative moment in human history.

Central to the Ai Salon are our in-person events, where we bring together scientists, founders, builders, and the generally curious to consider and shape our future together. We have hosted 50+ events, bringing over 1000 people together on 3 continents.

We’ve had conversations on a huge range of topics. Turns out there are an endless number of ways we can imagine AI transforming some aspect of our world! We’ve talked about Personhood, Religion, Space Industries, Neurotechnology, Democracy, Trustworthy AI Futures, and more!

Our ambitions extend beyond conversations and community development, however. We believe that because AI affects everyone, it should be affected by everyone. This requires novel approaches to participatory development of technology. We see a future where our distributed values and perspectives influence the direction of AI, either directly through participatory alignment and open-source development, or indirectly through evolving and disseminating influential ideas that will influence the future of AI. We are inspired by The Collective Intelligence Project and AI & Democracy Foundation’s visions of human-centered governance and steering of AI systems.

The Ai Salon Archive is our attempt at direct synthesis of the conversation transcripts themselves, and are always made with the support of AI. While we believe many useful insights come up in these conversations, we do not fact-check the claims made or endorse the arguments put forward. This Archive reflects the conversations to the best of our ability - nothing more, nothing less.
